July 11 – 13: North Haven, Vinalhaven and Brooklin

With strong winds forecast for the first two days of the cruise, our original itinerary was abandoned and boats dispersed. We picked up a mooring in North Haven, which is a small island community with a couple of gift stores and art galleries, a brew pub which was unfortunately closed the day we were there, and a handful of restaurants. The next day we moved to Perry Creek, just next door, where we found many of our friends. The day was spent rowing, hiking and spending time with friends. The forecast winds and rain never really materialized, and we had a lovely sunset. On Wednesday 13th we had a beautiful day and the fleet regathered at the Wooden Boat School in Brooklin. On the way, we tried to race; however ended up becalmed and drifting backwards into lobster pots! After fending off the same pot twice, we gave up and motored over to Brooklin. We had a tour of this fascinating school, followed by a dinner for all members, and ending with spectacular views of the sunset and Eggemoggin Reach.
