With thunderstorms forecast for the afternoon, we went through Fox Islands Thoroughfare and anchored well up in Seal Bay on Vinalhaven, in thick Maine mud. The rain had moved through by sunset, and next morning was warm and calm with a little lingering fog. Seal Bay is so well protected that the scenery is often reflected in the water. The tide was fairly high so I was able to paddle through a tidal channel into neighboring Winter Harbor to explore and take photos.
The breeze never really filled in, but later in the morning we had a challenging passage over to Mount Desert Island via Merchant Row, Casco Passage and Bass Harbor Bar. This gave us plenty of navigation to do, as well as lots of lobster pots to avoid!
