August 3 – 5: Sailing with friends – Seal Bay, Perry Creek and Pulpit Harbor

Friends Sue and Denny, who we met on the Salty Dawg Rally, joined us in Camden. We headed over to Seal Bay to ride out a stormy night. Next morning was still rainy and we didn’t go far: we stopped in Perry Creek initially as a lunch stop, then decided to stay the night. The weather cleared and we were able to walk on some of the Vinalhaven Land Trust trails, as well was poking around the creek in the dinghy.

First thing: Clean the dinghy!
Walking in the woods around Perry Creek – I’ve never seen it so green
Oops – by the time we got back, our dinghy was high and dry
As the wind dropped, boats were pointed in every direction. Sue’s term for this is “Cattywhumpus”
The shoreline is alarmingly close as the tide goes down!

We’ve recently joined the Ocean Cruising Club, and they had a meet-up scheduled on August 5 in Pulpit Harbor. Finally we had a lovely sunny day. I took my paddle board under a bridge and up to the end of a long creek. In the evening we joined OCC members on a raft-up, and traded stories of where everyone has sailed. Someone had arranged for oysters and lobsters to be available so we bought some to take back to the boat and then gorged ourselves! This was a lovely day and we enjoyed spending time with other OCC members.

Hard to take a bad sunset photo from the entrance to Pulpit Harbor!
