Firing up the Blog again: Summer 2025

Testing…. testing…. check check check….. It’s been a while since I last posted on this blog but I’m hoping to use it again as we set off on new adventures. It feels a bit rusty! Also I feel rather self-conscious as I realize that people actually are reading it! So, please let me know what you like and what you don’t, and I’ll try to tweak things as I go along.

We were launched rather later than we’d hoped, but that’s nothing new. We had a new rudder and shaft built in carbon fiber, and new bearings. Then, in order for them to be installed things had to be moved around in the boatyard. Our winter storage fees are based on the square footage we occupy, but because our keel is so deep we always end up with two or three smaller boats wedged underneath (boatyard math)! Anyway, here we are in the slings – always a bit nerve-wracking:

There have been a lot of projects this spring: In addition to the new rudder (designed by Jim Taylor and built by Competition Composites), Jeremy has been building a freezer, there was a lot of wiring to do (my favorite!), and I learned to service the winches. We also had the sail drive seal replaced, new engine mounts, new turbo, etc.

There was also time for some fun. We watched the July 4 fireworks on the boat; we spent a few days in Provincetown; and I entertained my book club and Mah Jongg groups for drinks on board.

Finally, the worlds of science and Harvard have been rather fraught this year, so Jeremy found time to show his support!

It was a busy couple of months but we are definitely ready to be on the move!
